A step above the rest

16th June 2008

South-Wales law firm, Leo Abse & Cohen, has appointed a qualified Trusts and Estates Practitioner (TEP) to strengthen its wills and estates team.

Julie Carvey will manage and develop the team's probate unit and promote a dedicated resource designed to support clients who are involved with estate administration.

With four years experience as a wills and estates practitioner, Julie has worked on a broad range of wills, trusts and probate matters and has a solid understanding of the legal issues facing clients in south Wales.

Claire Johnson, Head of Wills and Estates at Leo Abse & Cohen says: "Julie is among only a handful of practitioners to become a qualified Trusts and Estates Practitioner in Wales which means that as well as being a qualified solicitor, she has passed additional and challenging exams that mark her out as specialist in the field of wills and estates law.

"Julie's qualifications are well regarded amongst other professionals, as well as being something that our clients can be reassured by."

Julie Carvey says: "The team at Leo Abse & Cohen has a very dynamic and common-sense approach to providing this core service to clients.  I'm looking forward to working with such a progressive law firm."

Julie has a degree in English and completed the Common Professional Examination at London's College of Law to springboard her into the legal profession. She undertook the Legal Practice Course (LPC) at Cardiff University, a registered centre of excellence for law in the UK.

Claire Johnson added: "At the moment, many of the estates that we deal with arise out of wills we have drafted, and in most cases, where Leo Abse & Cohen is appointed as executors.

"However we also want to be in a position to promote our probate services to lay executors, who may be unsure as to whether to deal with their relative's estate administration themselves, or to put it in the hands of professionals.

"Julie will help us work towards promoting cost-effective and efficient alternatives, which are designed specifically to help people take the worry and hassle out of wading through the maze of estate administration on their own."

Leo Abse & Cohen employs 135 members of staff, including 12 partners, at its offices in Cardiff, Newport and Swansea and offers legal advice to a broad range of organisations and private clients. For further information on will and estates, contact Leo Abse & Cohen on 02920 383252.
