Two join Leo Abse & Cohen’s Cardiff office

28th May 2009

The Cardiff office of law firm Leo Abse & Cohen has expanded its family law team with two appointments.

Matthew Johnson, 36, from Newport, joins as a solicitor and brings with him over ten years' experience specialising in all aspects of family, matrimonial and children law.

After completing his law degree at Herfordshire University and his legal practice course at Cardiff University, Matthew has worked at some of the region's leading firms.

Matthew is highly regarded in the business community and has held high profile positions with leading business referral organisation Business Network International (BNI) as well as winning the BNI regional award for exceptional business and networking skills. He has recently been elected as director of the newest chapter of BNI, sitting at the Rogerstone Golf Club where he holds the lawyer's seat on behalf of Leo Abse & Cohen. Matthew is also a member of Resolution for Family Lawyers.

Marie Harrison, aged 25, from Monmouthshire, studied Law and Sociology LLB (Hons) at Cardiff University before taking up a part time position within Leo Abse & Cohen's residential conveyancing department in 2006. This allowed Marie to complete the Legal Practice Course at The University of Glamorgan, graduating with a distinction grading in June 2008

Marie recently joined the family department as a paralegal and will be assisting Anne Broughton and Matthew Johnson on a range of matrimonial, ancillary and family matters.  She commented: "I am pleased to be working as part of such an experienced team and am keen to qualify as a family law solicitor in the future."

The family law team is headed up by Anne Broughton, with six members of staff in the Cardiff office. The team advises clients on family law matters that includes divorce, financial arrangements, contact, residence, children matters, cohabitation disputes and change of name deeds.

Matthew said of his appointment, "Leo Abse & Cohen is a well respected and established firm and I'm delighted to be joining the team."

Anne Broughton said: "We are an expanding and busy department at Leo Abse & Cohen and so I'm delighted that Matthew and Marie have joined us.  Matthew is very experienced and will play a pivotal role in growing the family law department."
